A part of being a very great short story Araby has also shows some high philosophical dimension. James Joyce had depicted every incident in the story from the perspective of a comparison between and ideal world of beauty and the mundane world, where beauties and green got shattered.
For instance Mangan's sister represents ideal beauty and the world of high romance, for which the author can pay any price to achieve that world at any cost. When Mangan's sister fascinated the boy and requested him to bring something from the grand oriental Araby, then the narrator or the boy took her wish has almost like a command. Immediately he rushes into Araby and to bring something from her, he did not tolerate a least delay. Araby called him like a mirage and he was consciously or unconsciously drown towards that beautiful hallucination. Araby symbolises to him nothing but charm and attraction an ideal, whose calling he could not deny or ignore. This is a world which links him with his ideal girl, for whom the boy can almost sacrifice anything.
But in reality what the boy gets is nothing but utter chaos and breaking of the dreams, when the boy reached to Araby, then and it was almost dark. Many stalls where found closing, their was not selling and (louying). One girl was talking to two gentlemen and with a very artificial tone the girl spoke to the boy. It was highly depressing for the boy what he desired he could not get the thing ultimately. All his dreams and desires got finally destructed and dashed to the ground, with no hope to hang on, with dreams to live on. The boy in his search of the ideal ultimately got what is mundane, what is mean. This is how in Araby two separate world of ideal beauty and real life situation has been shown in a superb and philosophical way.
