Shakespeare composed 154 sonnets in total. What however is unique here Shakespeare's deviations from the conventional pattern of Petrarchan Sonnet writing. Instead of following the beaten track of the theme of love, Shakespeare used very unique concepts in his Sonnet. He has addressed his deep attachment and passionate longing for his male friend in Sonnets 1 to 126. After his sequence, Shakespeare's theme goes for his deep adoration for a mysterious lady whom he called "the dark lady" of the Sonnet. The Shakespearean Sonnet is also very unique from the point of structure also. Every Shakespearean Sonnet has 3 quatrains and having a concluding couplet. Each quatrain contains and carries on the theme of the basic argument of the Sonnet and the climax is reached at the end.
