In the essay Mischief Of The Party Spirit, Joseph Addison has analysed all the negative sides of a furious party spirit. He thinks that, there cannot be a judgement of division among a country then a dreadful partition among the various political parties. That spirit of division divides government in to two distinct people and make them greater stronger and more averse to each other. The division is such that it makes a group of people as two separate Nations. The effect of such a division is extremely pernicious to the last degree, not only with the regard to those advantages which they give the common enemies, but those private evils which they produce in the heart of every common human being. This is how the influence of division is very fatal to both men's morals and their understandings, sinking the virtue of a nation destroying every common sense.

The party spirit does not only intertwine and raise men's morals, it paralyzed and dangers one’s faculty of decision. One who is driven by this spirit becomes partial toward his reasoning, incapable of ascertaining real truth and appreciating real essence of beauty. As a consequence, a man of having ability and honour may appear to one as a dishonorable and vile person if he associate with different camp; a bad book may seems illuminating or an indecently offensive style of writing may be regarded as satire. Partisan lookout toward life by its prejudiced nature distorts knowledge and wisdom in man.
