      Katherine Anne Porter (1890-1980) was born in Texas. She worked on a newspaper in Colorado before spending many years in Mexico and Europe. Her experience of foreign cultures spurred her to write short stories collected Flowering Judas and Other Stories (1930) Katherine Anne Porter’s long life and career encompassed several years. Her first success, a story “Flowering Judas” (1929), was set in Mexico during the revolution. The beautifully crafted short stories that gained her renown subtly unveil personal lives. “The Jilting of Granny Weather all,” for example, conveys large emotions with precision.

      Often Anne Porter, reveals women’s inner experience and their dependence on men. Pale Horse Pale Rider (1939) to the book of mode. ‘The Old Order’ is the title story in her Collected Stories (1965). The story is semi-autobiographical, “Growing up in the South”, she has to learn about the limitations inherent in the codes and traditions transmitted to her by her family and about the scope of her responsibilities. Ship of Fools (1962) is a small bitterly ironic novel well received when it was first published. It is set on a German passenger ship sailing from Mexico to Germany in 1931 and explores the original and potential of human evil through the allegorical use of characters as almost one-dimensional representatives of various national and moral types.
